ASC - Our Firm

Our Firm

Athletics Staffing & Consulting (ASC) was designed to assist colleges and universities with executive searches and consulting services. ASC can provide colleges and universities a wide range of search opportunities from identifying a list of recommended candidates to conducting the entire search and from identifying prospective employees to assisting with negotiating contracts. ASC specializes in finding colleges and universities the proper staff fit and bringing a diverse group of candidates to the search process. ASC consulting services consist of feasibility studies, strategic plans, compliance reviews, NCAA/NAIA reclassification studies/transitions, conference membership options, Title IX reviews, and fundraising strategies. We formed ASC because we felt there was a need for a firm that was dedicated to diversity and that had personal experiences in dealing with the challenges associated with recruitment and hiring. Our experts have been the Conference Commissioner, Athletics Director, and/or coach who has lived through what you need assistance with.

President/CEO – Carl McAloose

Carl McAloose

Carl McAloose has unparalleled experience in a variety of positions within both the NCAA and NAIA. He has been a commissioner, an athletic director, a coach, and a student-athlete and has worked at every level of the NCAA. He has unlimited contacts with the NCAA and NAIA staffs, with Conference Commissioners, with Directors of Athletics, and with Coaches throughout the country.

McAloose is known throughout the country as one of the best judges of personnel in college athletics, and for his vision and ability to develop a plan to attain that vision. As Director of Athletics at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), McAloose was responsible for literally building the FGCU program from the ground up from its inception in 2000.

McAloose was the driving force as FGCU was the first university to receive a waiver from the NCAA II during the transition period (earning a three year waiver). Under his leadership FGCU made the move to NCAA Division I in the Fall of 2008. He developed the feasibility study which helped FGCU decide to make the move to NCAA I and was responsible for finding FGCU Division I conference membership. He then developed a strategic plan to meet the university’s mission and goals for the move to NCAA I. McAloose has also been extremely successful while assisting other universities with their staffing and consulting needs.

At FGCU McAloose was responsible for hiring an entire staff who built their programs which brought unprecedented success. During their first season of NCAA post season eligibility, FGCU had six teams represented at the NCAA II championships. During the second season 10 of 11 teams went to the NCAA championships. During the 2007-08 season, FGCU had several programs advance in the NCAA tournament with two teams ranked No. 1. The Eagles won 80 percent of their Division II contests since the university started athletics. The success continued as a Division I program as FGCU won seven conference championships in five sports in its first 18 months in Division I. Student-athletes also succeeded in the classroom with a 3.2 GPA or higher during every year and contributing over 7,500 hours of community service each year.

Prior to joining FGCU McAloose was the Commissioner of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Associate Commissioner of the Big South Conference, Associate AD at Coastal Carolina, Assistant AD and Coach at West Chester University, and Sports Information Director at Guilford College and Frostburg State University. McAloose has been very active at the NCAA level, serving on the NCAA II Management Council, NCAA Legislative Committee, NCAA Amateur Clearinghouse Committee and DII Men’s Basketball Committee.

McAloose formed ASC because many athletics directors and commissioners were referred to him to assist them with different staffing and consulting projects. “I really enjoy assisting other people build their programs through maximizing personnel and through creating a vision and developing a plan for their improvement,” said McAloose. “I was always being contacted by people looking for individuals to help diversify their pool of applicants and I was also calling contacts to diversify our pool of applicants, so I thought why not create a business that would serve as the middle man. ASC will find out the type of individual you are searching for and make the contacts to find you the most qualified and diverse pool of applicants available.”
