Herlihy scaledChancellor John Veres announced on Wednesday, September 2, that Jim Herlihy accepted the position as the new Director of Athletics at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM). ASC assisted AUM with its search for an athletic director. Herlihy replaces Steve Crotz, who announced his retirement effective July 2015 after serving 14 years of which eight of those years were as athletic director. Herlihy arrives in Montgomery following his time as a NCAA DII athletic director at St. Anselm College and at the University of Montevallo.

Kurt Patberg, who spent nearly ten years as a NCAA Division II commissioner, assisted the University-selected search committee with the recruiting efforts. Patberg also assisted AUM with their NCAA Division II membership application, which was accepted July 2015, into the NCAA Division II membership process.  AUM found an athletic director who can help the institution transition to NCAA Division II from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

"By using their [ASC's] knowledge to get to our short list of candidates that fit what we sought in an athletic director, we easily spent half the amount of time that is normally required in a search like this.   Additionally, they enhanced the pool of by bringing several qualified candidates to the finalist list.  Showing that they know talent, two of the individuals that they sought out, and applied to our position, were hired by and are current NCAA Division II AD’s.  Our search finished with securing a quality hire.  If our institution ever needed to conduct a search for an athletic director, we would without question use the services of ASC."
